Like a lot of people I reported earlier that Pangea Software stopped Mac app development to focus on the iPhone. Unlike a lot of people, though, I went to the source to set the record straight. You can hear what Pangea CEO & Founder Brian Greenstone says on this topic. Short story, we all got it wrong. Listen to the podcast for the details.
I just heard Andy Ihnatko mention on the MacBreak Weekly podcast that a new Open Source project has picked up where the late great VisualHub (project shut down last year) left off. It is called…
Video Monkey (on SourceForge.net)
…and describes itself as:
Video Monkey is a Mac-only application for the conversion of video between a variety of formats. It borrows concepts from the great, but now defunct Video Hub software.
If you read the news in AppleInsider…
Apple announces 17″ iMac for $899
…and elsewhere about the accidental leak by Apple’s education unit about an $899 17-inch iMac, you might not want to get too excited just yet. If it is like their previous low-cost iMac targeted at the K-12 market, it probably will NOT be available from Apple’s online or physical stores. It will probably be sold directly through educational sales channels and, maybe, some resellers. But, most of us probably will not have a convenient way to buy it. My guess is that its components may not even be as good as the similarly priced new high-end Mac mini. And, I prefer being able to choose and replace my own LCD screen in any case.

Surprised to read this about Pangea Software in Silicon Alley Insider…

Pangea ported their games from the Mac to the iPhone and had so much success they are giving up Mac game development to focus solely on the iPhone! Silicon Alley Insider reported that Pangea netted $2 million from iPhone game sales so far.
