iTunes 8.1.1 Allows CDs to be Imported at 256Kbps (iTunes Plus Quality)

I just updated iTunes to 8.1.1 and noticed that among the improvements is the ability to rip audio CDs at 256Kbps (iTunes Plus quality). Other improvements are:

- Syncing with 3rd generation iPod shuffle
- Lets friends request songs for iTunes DJ
- Genius sidebar for Movies & TV shows
- AutoFill for manually managed iPods

I’m still confused at this…is it just padding for the sake of hype? iTunes has always been able to import songs at various bitrates.

My recollection is that iTunes ripped up to 192Kbps previously. So, 256Kbps is a bitrate bump up
