Apple announces 17″ iMac for $899

…and elsewhere about the accidental leak by Apple’s education unit about an $899 17-inch iMac, you might not want to get too excited just yet. If it is like their previous low-cost iMac targeted at the K-12 market, it probably will NOT be available from Apple’s online or physical stores. It will probably be sold directly through educational sales channels and, maybe, some resellers. But, most of us probably will not have a convenient way to buy it. My guess is that its components may not even be as good as the similarly priced new high-end Mac mini. And, I prefer being able to choose and replace my own LCD screen in any case.
